MARCUS WASSMER -B-1843 D-1918
Married Magdalena Miller in 1869. She was born in 1850 and died in 1939. Daughter of Andrew (1808-1894) and Christina (1825-1906) Miller.
Marcus and Magdalena's home was located about one mile north of St. Wendel Church on Posey-Vanderburg County Line Road. It has always been occupied by several of his children up to the present time, (Feb. 1978) by his last surviving child, Thomas. [It has since been torn down since then.] Marcus joined the army and served in the Civil War. He joined on August 12, 1862, at the age of 18, nearly 19. At first his Company was called Captain Gaines Company, Regiment Indiana Infantry. Later it was changed to Company E, 91st Regiment. Indiana Infantry. Enlistments were paid a bounty of $25.00. His enlistment was for three years and he was discharged on June 26, 1865, at Salisbury, North Carolina. He was paid a bounty of $25.00 plus $75.00 for back wages from December 31, 1864.
